One of my favorite holiday movies is “Elf”. This 20 + year-old classic is
charming and fun for all ages in so many ways. I subject my family to
watch it every year, however, many times my brother conveniently finds
something else to do! The movie reminds us that nobody spreads
Christmas cheer quite like Buddy the Elf! Adopted and raised by Papa
Elf in the North Pole, Will Ferrell’s beloved character from the 2003
movie “Elf” embarks on a quest through the seven levels of the Candy
Cane forest, past the sea of twirly-swirly gum drops and into the Lincoln
Tunnel in pursuit of his biological father in New York City.

Here are some of my favorite Buddy sayings:
1. "The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to
hear."
2. "You have such a pretty face. You should be on a Christmas card."
3. "I just like to smile. Smiling's my favorite."
4. “It’s just nice to meet another human who shares my affinity for elf
culture.”
5. “There’s room for everyone on the Nice List!”
6. “If you can sing alone, you can sing in front of other people.
There's no difference."
7. “SANTA! Oh my God! Santa, here?! I know him! I know him!”
8. “I’m singing! I’m in a store and I’m singing!”
9. "Does somebody need a hug?"
10. “We elves try to stick to the four main food groups: candy,
candy canes, candy corns and syrup."

Buddy is innocent and trying to navigate the big city of New York. He
encounters many people; some nice, some not so nice. This movie is a
great roadmap for the season ahead. As we get busy with the hustle
and bustle of the season with traveling, shopping, baking, decorating,
wrapping and more, we need to stop, take a deep breath and remember
the true reason for the season, our Savor’s birth! He was given to us as
the most wonderful gift and to teach us how to love one another.

Let us learn to love one another, be kind to that pushy person in a store
line or share a smile with a weary retail clerk. Tis the season to spread
cheer for all to hear! I invite you to also help purchase gifts from our
Angel Tree that will soon be in the Fellowship Hall. Giving to others can
provide you with a wonderful sense of peace. I look forward to seeing
each of you during the upcoming Advent season.

May your Christmas be bright, filled with family and friends and may you
focus on our Savoir, Jesus Christ!

Hallelujah!
